If you’ve been fans of Tasting Kauai for a while, you know we hold the Kauai Grill in high esteem. We’ve had the privilege of interviewing chef de cuisine Maxime Michaud and executive chef Leanne Kamekona, as well as tasting dishes from world-renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. It’s simply delightful to be pampered with excellent service in a posh setting, while overlooking Hanalei Bay during sunset. Here is the new Fall 2013 menu, which includes 15 new dishes. We’ve been fans of Monkeypod Jam since June 2011, when we did an article about them for Midweek Kauai. It seems we’re not alone. In the March/April edition of Hawaii Magazine, a Reader’s Choice issue celebrating Hawaii’s Best of the Best, Monkeypod Jam is listed as having an obvious flair for sublime creativity. We couldn’t agree more!

Scotty’s Beachside BBQ

On Oct. 26, we reported that Scotty’s had been sold and today, we are sad to report it’s closed. Though Scotty’s Beachside BBQ is no longer serving up daily feasts at his beautiful restaurant, Scotty is still cooking amazing BBQ under Scotty’s BBQ & Catering Co. Scotty’s BBQ Catering specializes in wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners, and birthday and anniversary parties. Scotty’s Catering features plated or buffet style dinners with an affordable menu plus some “local style” favorites. Travel + Leisure recently announced the top 37 Most Romantic Restaurants in the United States. The Beach House Restaurant not only made the list, but was the only restaurant represented in the Hawaiian Islands. “This is a real honor for the staff, Kauai and the restaurant,” says General Manager Tim Obert.

Travel + Leisure says, “A great romantic restaurant should make you feel the way a great romantic partner does—appreciated, special, and like you’re the only person in the room.” We can’t argue with that! Continue Reading →
