On September 27, The Westin Princeville will host the 5th Annual Jazz & Wine Festival. Tickets are $95 and can purchased through the concierge at 808-827-8808.

“In addition to the awesome food and amazing entertainment, we will have a silent auction that will benefit the Kauai Lifeguard Association,” says Jason Sessions, director of food and beverage at The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas.

Winemakers’ Weekend with Inspiration Vineyards winemaker, Jon Phillips

The Cliffs at Princeville is hosting a winemaker weekend on Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1 on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific ocean. Winemaker Jon Phillips of Inspiration Vineyards, located in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County, will be here for this two part event. A four-course meal will be prepared by the chefs of Nanea at Westin Princeville. All the proceeds go to the Hanalei Bay Rotary Club.

Four-Course Menu:

Upon arrival, guests will be served a glass of 2011 Chardonnay, Estate Reserve ~ Russian River Valley

  • 1st course: Ahi Poke Nachos with Wasabi Aioli and Citrus Ponzu ~ 2010 Viognier, Russian River Valley
  • 2nd course: Hamakua Mushroom Risotto with White Truffle Oil and Kailani Farms Arugula ~ 2009 Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley
  • 3rd course: Garlic Seared Monchong with Yukon Mash, Kauai Seasonal Vegetables and Cabernet Butter Sauce  ~ 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon, Dry Creek Valley
  • 4th course: Macadamia Nut Fudge Cake with Raspberry Sauce and Vanilla Whipped Cream  ~ 2010 Zinfandel, Alexander Valley

Both events take place at The Cliffs at Princeville Resort, 3811 Edward Road, on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

The Westin Princeville and Koloa Rum Co. are teaming up for a cocktail party with live entertainment on the waterfall terrace at Nanea. Watch the sunset over the Pacific Ocean and talk story with Bob Gunter, president of Koloa Rum. He’ll be there, along with PR Director Jeanne Toulon, offering samples of their four award-winning rums. Kalapaki Joe’s is buying your Thanksgiving dinner this year. You just need to cook it! Listen to the KONG FM 93.5 morning drive with Marc & Ron on November 19 and 20 between 6 and 9 a.m. for a chance to win a complete Thanksgiving dinner that includes Raw Whole Turkey, Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans, Cranberries, Pumpkin Pie and Gravy. Winners can pick up their dinner at Kalapaki Joe’s in Lihue on Tuesday, November 20th between 2 and 6 p.m.

THE NATIONAL GARDENING ASSOCIATION is offering Youth Garden Grants through Home Depot. Five winners will receive gift cards valued at $1,000, and 95 winners will receive $500 gift cards, to purchase gardening materials and supplies from their local Home Depot store specific to the needs of their program. Deadline is Dec. 3, 2012. Schools, youth groups, community centers, camps, clubs, treatment facilities and inter-generational groups throughout the United States are eligible. Applicants must plan to garden with at least 15 children between the ages of 3 and 18 years. For more information about these grants, check out the Kids Gardening website. FISKARS’ Project Orange Thumb seeks applications for Community Garden Grants and Makeovers to help communities achieve their neighborhood beautification goals and support healthy, sustainable food sources. Nonprofit organizations in the United States and Canada are invited to apply for ten grants of $5,000 and a complete garden makeover. Deadline to apply is Dec. 15, 2012.
