Happy Aloha Friday everyone!

If you haven’t already, check out our MidWeek Kauai stories about kids cooking after school in Kapaa, and daikon at One Song Farm.

Speaking of One Song Farm, this week will be the last time you can buy their produce. They are closing their market garden, and moving to a new location, where they will be focusing on seed saving and garden workshops. Stop by the Kapaa farmers market this Wednesday and share your aloha.

Happy Aloha Friday and Earth Day to our Kauai Tasters!

NEWS:

Kokua Festival 2012, Kauai

Last night’s benefit concert for the Kokua Foundation was an amazing experience. The Kokua Hawaii Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that supports environmental education in the schools and communities of Hawaii, and Tasting Kauai was happy to donate time to this inspiring cause.

After we packed everything up, I got a chance to see the last part of the show. Paula Fuga  has a beautiful voice, and I really like John Cruz. When the two of them sing with Jack Johnson, it’s like Hawaiian angels caressing our ears. Continue Reading →

Happy Aloha Friday everyone! I’m happy to say that all the farmers markets have recovered from the rain that pounded Kauai earlier this month. The markets aren’t as abundant as they usually are because most farmers watched their entire gardens wash away. It will be another three to four weeks before things are back to normal, but in the mean time, I hope you can support them by shopping at their markets before you hit the grocery store. You can read our article in this week’s MidWeek Kauai, where the farmers share how the storm affected their gardens.

I like to add links to articles we’ve done, or websites for the businesses that are listed. In some cases people only have a Facebook page, so I’ll link to that. That way, if you are interested in something, you can learn more about it. For some reason, every time I type the word “Kauai”, WordPress links it to our Farmers Market page. While we are trying to figure out why, don’t click on the link. (Post script: Dan fixed it!) Continue Reading →

Rambutan Season on Kauai is Wrapping Up

Wintertime in Kauai is playful, lush and wet. Thousands of humpback whales migrate to the coast. They are seen from the shoreline, sending plumes of water into the air, breaching, or slapping their fins on the water. From the majestic Na Pali coast, to the vegetation along the highway, everything is a vivid green. It’s as if you’re in a movie, and the colors are turned way up.

And it rains.

A lot. Continue Reading →
