On September 27, The Westin Princeville will host the 5th Annual Jazz & Wine Festival. Tickets are $95 and can purchased through the concierge at 808-827-8808.

“In addition to the awesome food and amazing entertainment, we will have a silent auction that will benefit the Kauai Lifeguard Association,” says Jason Sessions, director of food and beverage at The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas.

Over the past two years our food tours have enabled us to meet some amazing people from all over the world. We have watched our guests’ eyes light up as they taste just-picked pineapples, noting that they tasted nothing like the store-bought kind — which are picked before they’re ripe so they can be shipped long distances. On our tours, we have had guests of all ages and it was delightful to watch children stuff their mouths with bright red mountain apples as seniors were invigorated by the fresh tropical air and lush landscaping. In “Original Santa Maria Style BBQ on Kauai,” in The Garden Island, catch up with the owners of Recessions Original Santa Maria Style BBQ, featuring a name that “is a nod toward the economic downturn and the family keeps prices low so people can enjoy filling meals” and refers to a style of BBQ Forbes magazine says is the “fifth style of American BBQ.”

Last week, in her On the Farm column, “Money for Moloaa,” Marta met with Moloaa farmers as they meet up with local politicians to generate funding for new irrigation systems.

This week, It’s lilikoi season! In this Sunday’s edition, learn about the purple passion fruit grown at Yoshii Farm and how to make Jean Marie Josselin’s Lilikoi Mint Chiffon Pie.

The Feral Pig celebrates their three year anniversary with a special farm-to-table dinner after their Hawaiian-style pub food gets a fine dining touch in “Freshening up the The Feral Pig,” in The Garden Island.
