Tasting Kauai

While I was learning how to safely can food at the 64-hour Hawaii Master Food Preservers class, my Farmers Markets and Tastes of Kauai columns were moved to The Garden Island newspaper. Farmers Markets, now called On The Farm, runs in the Sunday edition and Tastes of Kauai runs in the Wednesday edition. Sheraton Kauai Resort will kick off its yearly fundraising for the 36th Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk through RumFire Poipu Beach’s “You Dine, We Donate” program in February. Net proceeds for all food and beverage at RumFire’s sunset-view Table #53 will be donated to the non-profit event during the month-long fundraiser at the south shore’s hot spot for oceanfront dining.

Kauai Juice Co. opened their store on Jan. 7. You may be aware of their Kauai Kombucha or Kale Chips, but now you can get single servings of cold-pressed juice, or juice packs for a cleanse. You can also buy glass straws or a kombucha starter kit. If you’re not familiar with juice cleanses, they cover that extensively on the Kauai Juice Co. website. There’s also a lengthy explanation on what kombucha tea is. Visit them at their kitchen shop, in the Dragon Building in Kapaa to get any of their delicious and potent, cold pressed juices, medicinal shots, cold brewed coffee, nut milks, and all flavors of Kombucha. Tasting Kauai

My husband Dan and I wish you a warm, abundant, healthy and joyful holiday season! We have our last food tour today and then we’re taking time off to celebrate the close of 2013 and prepare for 2014. Since it’s just the two of us at Tasting Kauai, this will be our last blog post for 2013. My goal is to unplug from the computer the entire time. Kauai Coffee and Koloa Rum Challenge

Koloa Rum Company and Kauai Coffee are excited to come together to hold the first ever “Kauai Coffee Koloa Rum Challenge” charity event.

The main criteria is that you use Kauai Coffee or Koloa Rum (or both) as an ingredient in your recipe creation to be judged in the categories of entrée, drink or dessert.
