There’s a calm urgency inside Ha Coffee Bar. A vaulted ceiling with lazy fans and an uncluttered floor give a sense of openness, which feels peaceful. Baristas quietly pull espressos and cloud workers sit in front of laptops, using free WiFi to get in a day of work. Merchandise is stacked on a shelf, near a play area for children, which is empty at the moment. Contemporary music muffles the discussions of local politicians, who meet over a cup of coffee. Little Fish Coffee is tucked inside a yellow two-story building on Hanapepe Road. There is limited seating inside, but there are tables with umbrellas out back. A lengthy drink menu includes espresso made with coffee that’s organic, fair-trade and roasted every week in Waimea. Anuenue Cafe is a family-owned breakfast spot that opened in the Poipu Shopping Village last September. Michelle Hastings manages, her husband, John Adams, is a chef, and their daughter, Kendall, is a waitress who also takes photographs. You can see Kendall’s work lining the walls as you order at the take-out counter. Wait outside at one of the covered picnic tables and Kendall will bring your meal, loaded with fresh ingredients.
