On Kauai, Jean Marie Josselin is most remembered for his popular restaurant A Pacific Cafe, which flourished in the 90s, and was located in Kapaa. During that time, chefs of Hawaii were cooking with Asian flavors, European techniques, and sourcing from local farmers, ranchers and fishermen, which was unusual. Twelve chefs are credited with creating Hawaiian Regional Cuisine, and Jean Marie is the only one cooking on Kauai. Continue Reading →

Guests on our Kauai culinary tour got to know local mead maker, Stephanie Krieger. As the owner of Nani Moon Mead, she closed the shop, and gave us an exclusive tour and tasting. She also had a little surprise for us all, and taught us how to make a cocktail with her Winter Sun Mead—a margarita no less. She gave everyone the recipe, and I’m sharing it here with you. The new Restore Kauai Farmers Market not only makes parking a lot easier, but the value added products are a welcome addition to the popular Sunshine Market held every Wednesday in Kapaa. There is a nicely graded dirt pathway that leads to the Sunshine Market, and vendors such as Midnight Bear Breads, and Kauai Kunana Dairy line the entrance. Continue Reading →

We’re all about supporting locally grown food, and that extends to beverages. We feel extremely fortunate to enjoy rum made just a few miles away, with sugar grown on Kauai, as well as Kauai spring water. Naturally, the Koloa Rum Co. is  our liquor of choice. Here at Tasting Kauai, Dan Lane is not only the photographer, but bartender. Since we had an abundance of nutritious passion fruit juice, Dan blended it with Kauai Spice rum, and came up with this refreshing drink.
