Kauai’s Best Bartender

Last night, RumFire Poipu Beach declared Jennifer Bryant of The Club at Kukuiula champion of the Kauai’s Best Bartender competition. In the contest’s second year, 16 finalists from the island’s food and beverage industry were challenged to showcase original Koloa Rum-based cocktails over a 15-week competition for the chance to earn the title and the $4,000 grand prize. Tommy Bahama’s Cantaloupe Sunset Margarita with Sauza Conmemorativo Tequila with fresh orange, Watermelon Liqueur and scratch sour.

Tommy Bahama has crafted a variety of margaritas including their latest — the Cantaloupe Sunset Margarita.  A perfect way to celebrate mom, this  cocktail recipe combines Sauza Conmemorativo Tequila with fresh orange, Marie Brizard  Watermelon Liqueur and scratch sour. Cheers to mom!

Cantaloupe Sunset Margarita

1 ¾ parts Sauza Conmemorativo Tequila
1 ½ parts Marie Brizard Watermelon Liqueur
1 ½ parts scratch sour mix
¾ part fresh orange juice
Build ingredients in a mixing glass
Shake with ice 20 times
Strain into a coupe glass over 3 ice cubes and garnish rim with a blend of sugar and salt and a cantaloupe ball on bamboo skewer.
Scratch Sour Mix:
(Recipe makes 1/2 gallon. Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.)
3 oz. egg whites, pasteurized
2 cups sugar
4 cups water
3 ½ cups fresh lemon juice
¼ cup fresh lime juice
¼ cup fresh orange juice
Whisk egg whites in a large bowl until frothy. Stir in the sugar and mix until incorporated. Add water and fresh juices and mix thoroughly.
