The Beach House Wins the Coveted Hale Aina Gold Award for the Best Restaurant on Kauai for the 13th Year in a Row

 

The readers of Honolulu Magazine recently honored Kauai’s stunning oceanfront restaurant in Poipu, The Beach House, with the Hale Aina Award for Kauai’s best restaurant. This prestigious accolade was first given back in 2001 and the restaurant has won for thirteen consecutive years.

In 1984, Honolulu Magazine established the Hale Aina Awards to honor Hawaii’s finest dining. As the first program to recognize local eateries, the Hale Aina Awards have become one of the most prized dining honors in the Islands. Kalapaki Joe’s is buying your Thanksgiving dinner this year. You just need to cook it! Listen to the KONG FM 93.5 morning drive with Marc & Ron on November 19 and 20 between 6 and 9 a.m. for a chance to win a complete Thanksgiving dinner that includes Raw Whole Turkey, Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans, Cranberries, Pumpkin Pie and Gravy. Winners can pick up their dinner at Kalapaki Joe’s in Lihue on Tuesday, November 20th between 2 and 6 p.m.

THE NATIONAL GARDENING ASSOCIATION is offering Youth Garden Grants through Home Depot. Five winners will receive gift cards valued at $1,000, and 95 winners will receive $500 gift cards, to purchase gardening materials and supplies from their local Home Depot store specific to the needs of their program. Deadline is Dec. 3, 2012. Schools, youth groups, community centers, camps, clubs, treatment facilities and inter-generational groups throughout the United States are eligible. Applicants must plan to garden with at least 15 children between the ages of 3 and 18 years. For more information about these grants, check out the Kids Gardening website. FISKARS’ Project Orange Thumb seeks applications for Community Garden Grants and Makeovers to help communities achieve their neighborhood beautification goals and support healthy, sustainable food sources. Nonprofit organizations in the United States and Canada are invited to apply for ten grants of $5,000 and a complete garden makeover. Deadline to apply is Dec. 15, 2012. The new Restore Kauai Farmers Market not only makes parking a lot easier, but the value added products are a welcome addition to the popular Sunshine Market held every Wednesday in Kapaa. I just received an announcement naming the winners of the Hawaii Coffee Competition. Congratulations to every island, and to the farmers who hand-craft their coffee. Big coffee companies add 10 percent Kona coffee beans to 90 percent inferior beans sourced from outside the United States. As the Hawaii government bumbles through the Truth in Labeling bill, the only insurance you have when buying authentic Hawaiian coffee is knowledge. So feel free, indulge in these award winners!
