Fresh, flavorful and delightfully aromatic is how I describe the Thai food at Bangkok Happy Bowl. Inside, color abounds in the half Thai, half Japanese restaurant. After opening in the Poipu Shopping Village last October, the dual concept will soon include sushi. “I used to make Filipino food with my grandfather,” says Shane Galan, chef of Kauai’s new Lava Lava Beach Club. His warm brown eyes and welcoming smile are disarming. “Our family would hunt pigs and cook them on the barbecue with a blend of tomatoes, lemon, onions and shoyu. Diners can now eat local in Hawaii at Verde restaurant, located in Kapaa. The popular New Mexican eatery has recently upgraded its menu with “clean” ingredients, such as produce that was grown on Kauai as well as antibiotic free chicken and pork. From the beginning, they’ve served Kailani Farm’s lettuce mix and for the past two years, grass-fed beef that’s raised and processed on Kauai’s Westside.
