Tasting Kauai is happy to partner with the O’Connells for Winesday with The Wine Shop. Owners Dan and Ellen O’Connell are a delightful couple whose passion for wine is infectious, their knowledge is vast, and their service is friendly. Well, the first month of 2014 is leaving us. Is it just me, or are the days passing quicker? Must be global warming!
Saturday, February 1 will mark our second wine tasting event here at The Wine Shop in 2014. With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, we are featuring these four fun wines that would be perfect to give, receive and of course drink. The first wine is Françoise Montard Rosé. You can’t miss with this sparking Rosé from France. It has a good body without being too fruity, as well as a nice light dry finish.
Our next selection, Kaena Hale Red, is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. It pairs great with either light dishes or desserts.Our third selection is a new wine out of Napa Valley called Twenty Bench. This collaboration of Nine North Wine Company and winemaker Charles Hendricks is a perfect model of a Napa cab with great pricing. I am thrilled about this new find.
Our last wine has very wild name, “Sexual Chocolate.” This Napa Valley multi AVA wine is a great blend of Syrah, Zinfandel and Petite Syrah. No it doesn’t taste like chocolate!

The Wine Shop is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. On the first Saturday of each month from 4 to 7 p.m., they host monthly wine tastings.
