Tasting Kauai wishes your food lovin’ heart a happy Valentine’s Day! Dan and I have been happily married for 16 years and this year, Michelle and Ron celebrated 2 years of wedded bliss. We hope love fills your hearts as much as it does ours. I’ve compiled a list of lovely treats to help celebrate and elevate your love! Look for menus following the listings. WESTSIDE of KAUAI:
MCS Grill is closed on Sundays so they are celebrating early with a special four-course meal ($29.95) on Saturday, Feb. 13.
- Appetizer: Crab Cakes
- Soup or Salad: Gazpacho (chilled tomato soup) or House Salad
- Entrée: Four cheese ravioli w/ baby lobsters tails in a sun-dried tomato basil cream sauce. Served with garlic toast
- Dessert: Lilikoi Tiramisu
SOUTH SHORE of KAUAI:
Papalani Gelato will have their special spicy chocolate gelato and a collection of special Valentine’s Chocolates. These include flavors like Hawaiian Chocolate Mousse, Dark Chocolate Mousse, Blond Chocolate Lilikoi, Pina Colada, Lilikoi, Dark Chocolate Raspberry, and Pineapple Lychee among others. There are boxes available now in Poipu but they expect them to go fast!

Merriman’s Fish House will be offing their regular menu on Valentine’s Day. They do have an exciting promotion going on, kamaaina get a 50-percent discount during the 5 p.m. dinner seating. The offer is not available on holidays, but still good to know! The offer is good until the end of March.
Kalaheo Cafe & Coffee Co. will be doing two specials for brunch on Valentine’s Day. They are open from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
OnoPops celebrates the Chinese Lunar New Year, the year of the Fire Monkey, with their once-a-year Dark Chocolate Chinese Five Spice OnoPop featuring Waialua Estate 70-percent dark chocolate (from Oahu’s north shore) blended with their organic Chinese five spice seasoning. They’ll be selling it at Hanapepe Friday Art Night as well as the KCC farmers market on Saturday. For Valentine’s Day, they’ve created Kauai Lovers Latte. A frozen pop made with Kauai Coffee’s Mundo Novo Estate Reserve coffee beans, HI Fresh Farms dairy from Big Island and Maui cane juice. OnoPops will be at Thursday evening’s Zonta Club Eat Dessert First benefit as well as the Waimea Town Celebration Roundup Rodeo on Friday, Feb 19 and Saturday, Feb 20.
EAST SIDE of KAUAI:
Wailua Shave Ice will be celebrating their one year anniversary on Valentine’s Day. “We are bringing the freezer and generator so we can give free ice cream to put on the bottom of your shave ice,” says Owner Joah Tamaoka. “We’ll also have giveaways and some new flavors as well.”
Passion Bakery will have red velvet cupcakes available all week and Tiny Isle is doing cute conversation hearts on their Truffle Bites.
NORTH SHORE of KAUAI:
Kilauea Bakery and Pau Hana Pizza will be serving traditional chocolate dipped strawberries. “We always have a few dozen “dog house” roses for sale,” says Owner and Baker Thomas Pickett. “Gets the husbands and boyfriends out of the dog house for forgetting Valentine’s Day.”
