Kauai Food Tours Offer Tasting Adventures
After a great deal of extremely fun research, I happy to announce the launch of two new food tours. I’ve partnered with amazing people who have a passion for great food and whose cups overflow with aloha. These new Kauai food tours introduce guests to our favorite places and people who make fresh food from scratch, using local ingredients whenever possible. I selected each location based on the hundreds of articles I’ve written about food and farming on Kauai and I also teamed up with a professional tour guide.
Kauai Food Tour – North Shore is a flavorful adventure to out-of-the way establishments that includes tastings of products made with exotic fruit, traditional Hawaiian food and Tiki cocktails. Guests meet farmers, chefs and food artisans on this exclusive food tour, which is centered on the regional cuisine of Hawaii, where the host community lives, eats and plays. This tour happens every Tuesday and is limited to 10 people.
Kauai Food Tour – South Shore invites guests to sample the sights, flavors and history of Kauai’s sunny South Shore. The stops are a celebration of street food inspired by Hawaii’s diverse cultures. Experience super fresh Japanese food, taste sensational street tacos, sample tropical gelato while it’s being made and learn about Hawaiian staple foods. Along the way, guests meet Kauai’s farmers, chefs and food artisans. This unique food tour concludes at the Kauai Culinary Market, which is Kauai’s premiere gourmet farmers market. This tour happens every Wednesday and is limited to 10 people.
Both tours are 4-hours, cost $120 and include tastings at six stops and lots of tasty surprises in between. Each tour celebrates Kauai’s culinary uniqueness by sharing tasty trends and intimate connections with residents who grow and make food. Guests will also meet local farmers and have an opportunity to taste exotic fruit in the midst of the Garden Island’s lush surroundings. Space is limited to 10 people per tour.
Tasting Kauai donates a portion from each tour to the Hawaii Foodbank – Kauai Branch (HFBKB), which is the only food bank on Kauai that is audited by Feeding America and is required to meet strict national guidelines for the safe handling and distribution of food, financial and administrative practices as well as donor/agency relations. Seventy-three percent of HFBKB’s households are food insecure, meaning they do not always know where they will find their next meal; 66 percent of these households include children.
Our tours are expertly guided by Michelle Lemay, a cheerful Hawaii resident for the last 10 years. She has worked as a professional tour guide around Hawaii, the West Coast and internationally for the last nine years. Michelle never misses an opportunity to indulge in a good laugh and has extensive personal knowledge of local restaurants. She enjoys connecting with guests and sharing information pertinent to the area and topic at hand.
