When Chef Kim Brun left Lava Lava Beach Club after helping the new restaurant open in 2015, something told her to keep her emblazoned Sous Chef coat. And it’s a good thing, as she sits in front of me over two years later wearing it while she waits for her new “Chef” coat to come in. She returned to the restaurant in April 2017 and was recently promoted to the head chef role, leading the kitchen in serving Hawaiian-themed fare to guests with their toes dipped in the sand. Hawaii’s award-winning Koloa Rum Company has announced the launch of its first-ever Kauai Reserve Three-Year Aged Hawaiian Rum.

Artfully crafted in single-batches at its Kalaheo distillery, Kauai Reserve is made from the finest Hawaii sugar cane and fresh island water that was slowly filtered through volcanic strata before reaching vast underground aquifers. Kauai Reserve is carefully aged for a minimum of three years in select American white oak barrels and contains no added sugar, color or other ingredients. Continue Reading →

Last week there was a grand opening of Coconut’s Fish Cafe, the chain’s first location on Kauai, and they’re open now to the public. The restaurant’s decor is bright and fun (the surfboard tables are too cute), and a fast-casual ordering and seating style, which makes it a great option for a quick lunch. Continue Reading →

The Shops at Kukuiula Presents the 2nd Annual Poipu Food & Wine Festival

The Shops at Kukuiula and Poipu Beach Resort Association’s 2nd Annual Poipu Food & Wine Festival runs through November 12.

Similar to last year’s inaugural event, this year’s festival supports the Culinary Arts Program at Kauai Community College. Culinary skills of Kauai’s premier chefs will be showcased through demonstrations, hands-on cooking classes and food tastings. Festival guests will also enjoy Hawaiian music provided by top island artists and receive gifts and prizes from local merchants, including a free signature cookbook.  Continue Reading →
